From a giraffe with a broken neck to a turtle with a plastic belt and a horse that fell into Apple Valley. Today, we’re going to take a look at 15 animals that survived the impossible. Stay tuned until the end of the post for some of the craziest animal survival stories of all time. Let’s get started with number 15, the deer in an icy river. There are so many factors in the wild that can kill any animal.
One of them is extreme cold. This red deer survived in a river of ice cold water in Siberia. The deer ended up in the river when the ice broke through. The freezing water would not need much time to cause a devastating effect on anyone. Lucky for the deer, as soon as it was spotted by a group of kind humans who rescued it before it would have faced hypothermia.
They lit up a small fire next to the animal and it slowly started showing life once again. This one might not sound too mind blowing, but wait till you find out about the giraffe that lived with a broken neck. Moving on to number 14, the Wonder Doggy. Our world keeps getting cooler and cooler. Can you believe that even dogs have been sentenced to death?
Yes, this happened in Alabama, where a few dogs were sent to end in a gas Chamber. And look who survived. Out of the 19 dogs in that Chamber, Daniel was the only one who miraculously survived. When the animal control opened the door there he was alive and whacking his tail. Nobody knows how he survived.
The Wonder Doggy was completely healthy after that incident, which 19 others of his kind couldn’t manage to get through. Moving on to number 13, the duallegged calf shocked. Well, then maybe you didn’t know that it’s not just humans who are sometimes born with deformities. This calf in Indonesia had only one pair of legs. It could have cursed its deformity and stayed put all its life, but it was brave enough to accept the challenge.
Yes, the calf learned to walk on two Hind legs. It surely would have been difficult to keep his balance, but he still managed to live a normal life. But that’s exactly what survivors do. Not so impressed yet. Then wait till you hear about the giraffe that broke its neck and still lived.
Moving on to number twelve, the two legged goat. When the calf we saw earlier had two Hind legs, this little goat was born with only two front legs. So that’s another two legged survivor. This goat born in China made it all the way to the headlines. Despite being born with just two legs, unlike all the others of its kind, the goat took his first steps right after a few weeks, he was born.
Like every survivor, he met his odds. He could later be seen not just walking, but also running around with his siblings. He led a healthy and normal goat life. Moving on to number eleven. The six legged deer.
We watched a calf and a goat that weren’t blessed with enough legs. But here we are looking at a deer that got more than what it needed. This deer was born with six legs instead of four. It was recovered from Georgia, where it was attacked and injured by two dogs. Following the attack, one of its tails had to be cut off.
It was given immediate medical attention and the doctors figured out that the Deer’s extra legs resulted from a twin that couldn’t fully develop. So the Deer’s sibling left him with an extra pair of legs in his memory. Watch on till you hear about the insane story of the giraffe that survived with a zigzag neck. Moving on to number ten, the snare survivor. In 2009, the Makumu National Park in Tanzania witnessed a lion that survived a snare.
Snares are traps made of wire or cord, mainly used to catch birds or small animals. But somehow the King of the jungle himself got caught in it. The snare was stuck in the lion’s neck and it stayed there as he continuously grew in size. Three years passed on with the snare tightening around his neck. Finally, when the lion got too weak and unable to Hunt, an attempt was made to free the King from his agony.
A group of vets managed to sedate him and then cut off all the wires. Though the snare was a slow death for the lion, he still managed to survive for long. Moving on to number nine, the Beefy Kangaroo. Time to meet Roger, the red Kangaroo folks. Roger survived being an orphan.
His mother was hit by a truck and little Roger was found in his mother’s pouch. He was discovered by someone and was given to a Kangaroo sanctuary where they could properly take care of him. Roger grew up to become the Alpha male of his community. He was 6ft seven inches tall and weighed up to £200 being as healthy as any other normal Kangaroo. Not just that, Roger gained Fame for having the most muscular build.
He was the Alpha male after all. Despite being orphaned right after birth, Roger managed to survive without his parents and grew up to become the smart and healthy Kangaroo. Wait until you find out about the giraffe that lived with a fractured neck, folks. Moving on to number eight. Twin turtles in one body.
Tiny turtles look cute, but what about two tiny turtles under a single shelve? And let us see if there are two turtles or a single turtle with two heads. So this little turtle surprised everyone. When it was born in the Zehan Wildlife Park in China, it came out of its shell with two fully developed and operating heads. Both the heads worked independently of each other and they even eat separately.
This phenomenon is called polysphaly. Such an organism may be thought of as one being with an extra body part or as two beings with a shared body. This two headed turtle might look happy to us, but it surely has a problem when either of the heads wish to go in a different direction. Moving on to number seven. The starved orangutang this cute orangutan named Booty survived ten months without food.
It’s not that baby Booty wanted to go on a diet, but it was his owner who starved him. He had been locked up in a chicken coop for ten months without food and was on the verge of death. The porous thing had become so weak that it couldn’t even sit properly, and its legs had gotten so swollen and bent by the time it was rescued. When he was brought to the International Animal Rescue Center in Indonesia, most people believe Booty wouldn’t make it. It took three years of nursing for Booty to make a full recovery.
He survived through all of it and is now happily living with the ones of his kind. Will you till you hear about the giraffe that broke its neck but still lived a happy life with no regrets. Moving on to number six. The Kitty’s. Big fall.
Let’s meet nine year old Copper, who survived a big fall from an apartment building in New York City. Curious little Copper decided to explore one day and slipped in through a window his owners had slightly left open. They would never have thought that their cat would get too adventurous all of a sudden. But naughty Copper slipped through without notice and fell from above 14 stories to the street below. Once they found out, his owners rushed Copper to the local vet.
It was surprising how he could survive with just one fractured leg. Well, they say cats have a natural fondness for heights. So maybe Copper was just doing what he liked. What do you think, folks? Moving on to number five, the harmless Indestructibles.
Now, that sure sounds extraordinary. Have you ever heard of tardigrades? They’re commonly called water bears or Moss piglets. These creatures are considered to be the most indestructible species on this planet. They’ve been able to stick around for thousands of years, and anything that has tried to kill a tardigrade has undoubtedly realized that it’s impossible.
The cool thing about them is that they can enter into a stage called cryptobiosis in which their metabolism comes to a halt. They’ve been found at ocean depths of nearly 2 miles in the highest altitudes of the Himalayas and even in the Antarctic. So the tardigrades have probably survived the harshest of conditions ever. They can stay at temperatures between negative 485 degrees Fahrenheit to a scorching 303 degrees Fahrenheit. They are tough to kill and have thus proven to be indestructible and harmless at the same time.
Moving on to number four. The cat washed in a machine. You’re going to meet Tiggy, the cat who survived 30 minutes in a washing machine. Yes, it looks like he is one lucky cat. Nine month old Tiggy somehow got stuck in his owner’s washing machine and spent 30 minutes fighting inside it.
When his owner pulled him out, he looked lifeless and unable to move. He was given CPR as soon as he was pulled out, which fortunately made him breathe again. He was then rushed to a vet where he was given an oxygen mask. He suffered bruising and several head injuries. Even the vet was amazed at how Tiggy survived.
It was miraculous for a cat to survive inside a running washing machine for 30 minutes and even more miraculously recovered and returned home just 3 hours after the incident. Yes, that sure makes Tiggy a warrior. Starting now, things get serious. It’s now time to look at the horse that fell into Apple Valley along with its owner, the turtle with a plastic ring around her waist and the giraffe that broke its neck and lived happily like we’ve been talking about all through the post. Moving on to number three, the horse in Apple Valley.
Horse riding is fun until you fall off your horse. But falling into a vast ravine along with your horse is a sadder story, the same as the story of this horse which fell into the Apple Valley along with its rider down the 300ft ravine. The female rider who sat on the horse wasn’t injured in the fall. She walked out of the ravine with no harm, but her horse had to wait for another day to be rescued. A group of people went down to the Valley to assess the horse’s injuries, and his rescue arrived the next day with a helicopter.
Though most of them thought that the horse wouldn’t survive that huge fall, he did survive despite being badly injured. That’s a real survivor. He was in pain, but he managed to let his rider walk away with no harm. Moving on to number two. The turtle with a plastic belt.
