A stranger saves two kids from a house fire, then disappears 60 years later, the truth comes out. Life is filled with uncertainty and we never know which tragedy might strike us. In just a matter of seconds. Things can go from completely normal to absolutely chaotic. House fires are the most unexpected incidents that occur and they sweep away the lives of people within a couple of minutes.
However, if it is not too late, we find ourselves thanking the heavens. Which is exactly what happened to a woman in Hyattsville back in 1959 when she almost lost her two toddlers in a fire. If it was not for the mysterious fireman that appeared suddenly and left without uttering a word, August of 1959 brought great misery to a household.
When a woman was busy doing laundry, she did not notice the fire breakout until it was too late for her. While her two toddlers, named Michael and Linda, were deep in sleep on the second floor of their house, she was getting some chores done on the first floor, which is why she missed the fire breakout.
The fire grew bigger and bigger and just as the unfortunate mother found herself surrounded in fire, she was left helpless. With the toddlers trapped upstairs, she was in the most dreadful moments of her life, albeit she escaped the fire, leaving her kids behind.
The terrified mother started screaming hysterically on the streets while running around to find someone who could save her two little kids, Michael and Linda. Both were quite young and Michael, being only three years old, did not stand a chance to save his two year old sister. Both of them were in a perilous situation and unfortunately they could not do anything to get out of the house and therefore they fainted due to the growing smoke.
There was no hope for the two toddlers and the two were about to lose their lives until two firemen climbed the ladder and took the unconscious kids out of the fire and into safety. The names of the two firemen were not known and the two disappeared before it could be found.
Years went by and the incident still remained as the darkest moment in the family’s memory and they were extremely grateful for the two mysterious firemen. For decades, the name and identity of these firemen remained a mystery. The family tried to reach out to the firemen, but their attempts failed as they remained unknown for years.
They felt quite unsettled as they truly wanted to thank the two men for their selfless bravery, but they could not do so, which is why the family never got closure. It was not until after 60 years the two siblings got a lead. Finally, the mystery that they had been trying to solve for years was over while rummaging through old memories.
In an old Photobox, one of the siblings found an article that dated back to the day of the fire in 1959 and he was extremely shocked and excited once he found what was there. Michael wasted no time and collected as much information about the two men and found that their names were Stu Neman and Carl Hartman.
He and his sister arranged a meeting and paid a hearty tribute to the people who saved them and gave them a second chance at life. After 60 years, they found the firefighter who took them out of a raging fire without even asking for a reward for it. They truly were heroes. We never forget our heroes and we are ever so grateful to those who are there for us in our darkest hours. However, it is surely a tragedy if one doesn’t even know the name of the person who has risked their life to save them.
And those who risk their lives to save someone else’s without any greed for money and renown are truly the real heroes. Those who bring a huge change in someone’s life without even bringing any attention to themselves. It surely sounds quite unbelievable but there actually are people out there who who are brave enough to risk their lives without any motive for reward in life.
