San Diego – Led by a costumed killer whale, members of Students Against Racism (SOS) – a PETA-backed youth-led rebellion against the archaic notion that humans are superior to other animals and can be used to entertain humans – will gather outside SeaWorld to demand that the company ended its dirty breeding programs and sent the dolphins and whales it uses to coastal sanctuaries. The protest is part of a nationwide “day of action” that also includes SOS protests in Orlando, Florida and San Antonio.
When: Saturday 27 March 12:00
Where: Near the intersection of Sea World Drive and Sea World Way, San Diego
“Students have spent a year in isolation due to COVID-19, but they object to SeaWorld’s practice of restricting killer whales to small concrete cages for their the whole life“Says PETA director Rachelle Owen. “Students demand that these animals be given some semblance of natural life, and they are allowed to dive deeply and communicate with others like themselves in the seaside reserve.”
The Los Angeles SOS Center, which previously opposed brutal experimentation at the National Institutes of Health and the use of animals for clothing at Urban Outfitters, is now drawing attention to SeaWorld, urging the company to end the forced breeding of bottlenose dolphins. and whales, and release all marine mammals from their parks to coastal reserves. At SeaWorld, these animals are kept in small concrete pools, in which they often fight incompatible tank mates, swim in endless circles and grind their teeth, gnawing at the sides and metal gates of the tanks.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to be used for entertainment” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit SeaWorldOfHurt.com or subscribe to PETA on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
