Sophie the Countess of Wessex will become one of the few female senior members of the royal family alongside Kate Middleton and Princess Anne, when her husband Prince Edward, the current Earl of Wessex, becomes the new Duke of Edinburgh.
King Charles will decide on the next generation of working Royals. As he has said in the past, he wants to streamline the monarchy.
Sophie the Countess of Wessex could inherit the title of Duchess of Edinburgh from Queen Elizabeth and play a bigger role within the royal family.
According to reports Sophie the Countess of Wessex is to receive the title as Duchess of Edinburgh. The Countess was close to Queen Elizabeth as she called her majesty every day and visited her regularly.
The two Royal wives shared a love of military history and often spent time perusing historical documents in the Royal archives at Windsor Castle.
The Countess also lived just a short distance from Windsor Castle at their bagshot park estate and often spent time with the queen walking the dogs together.
Sophie Wessex was also known for calling Queen Elizabeth mama, and it was reported that the queen was helping the Countess cope with her mother’s death from stomach cancer in 2005.
The Countess of Wessex is expected to become the next Duchess of Edinburgh, as it was Prince Philip’s wish for his title of Duke of Edinburgh to be passed on to his youngest son.
Prince Edward King, Charles is believed to have agreed with his father to make his brother Duke, but speculation over the past year has suggested the new king may have changed his mind.
A source told the Sunday Times. The prince is the Duke of Edinburgh by the looks of it, and it’s up to him what happens to the title it won’t go to Edward. In a past interview with the BBC, Prince Edward seemed hesitant about getting the new title. As he said, it was fine in theory ages ago, when it was kind of my father’s pipe dream and of course it will depend on whether the Prince of Wales, when he becomes king, will do so. The prince added so we’ll wait and see so yeah. It’s going to be quite a challenge to embrace that.
However, according to the telegraph, Royal experts seem to think Prince Edward will inherit the title, as he has already assumed. Responsibility for Prince Philip’s, successful Duke of Edinburgh Awards program Prince Edward, is the current chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Duke of Edinburgh’s international Awards foundation and regularly presents gold Awards to young people participating in the program.
The program which helps young people develop life and work skills has presented Awards to over 2.5 million young people for completing the program and currently has over 1 million active participants.
