Shining mom-to-be Mena Suvari is joining forces with PETA and a strategically placed avocado to showcase her bump and encourage everyone to “go vegan baby!”
For Mena, who has been vegan since 2017, plant-based energy pregnancies were an easy task. Known for her characters in iconic films such as American beauty and American Pie, she is now preparing for the lifelong role of “mom” and is committed to raising her child with compassion and kindness.
“With everything I know about the brutality of the meat industry and the health benefits of going vegan, I knew I wanted to raise my son to be a kind, loving and empathetic person, and I think it could start with the way we eat family “She says.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics claims that veganism is suitable for all stages of lifefrom childhood to adolescence to adulthood (including pregnancy), and recognizes that switching to veganism can provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Mena joins PETA’s long list of pals, including Laura Clery, Danielle Monet, Emily Deschanel and her American woman partner Alicia Silverstone, who has been outspoken about the benefits of a healthy vegan pregnancy. If you are expecting, always keep an eye on getting the nutrients you need and consult your doctor about any dietary decisions or questions you have during pregnancy.
Certain animal products are considered unsafe for pregnant women, including many products that contain milk cheese. But good news! Vegan cheese is safe for almost any pleasure, whether it is expected or not. Soft cheeses – like PETA favorites Kite Hill, Treeline Treenut Cheese and Miyoko’s Kitchen – are delicious, animal-friendly, and completely safe for pregnant women. Also, who can relate more to cows used in the dairy industry than pregnant mothers?
Mena and PETA turn to each become a vegan. It could help save about 200 animals every year and fight both climate change and world hunger. For many, veganism improves their health by avoiding foods that increase the risk of heart disease, cancer, or strokes. In addition, by refusing to support the meat and dairy industry, you show solidarity and support for the slaughterhouse workers, who are often forced to work in extremely dangerous conditions.
