Memphis, Tennessee. – Just in time for Valentine’s Day, PETA organized a sweet surprise for the newly-named city worst for heart health in the US: local bus ads urge everyone to take care of their health and animals by “separation” from meat.
“PETA is asking everyone to show a little love for chickens and other animals this Valentine’s Day by choosing delicious, heart-healthy vegan options,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “When it comes to feeling pain and fear and appreciating your life, a chicken is no different from a human – and just as much deserves compassion.”
Birds killed for their flesh are shoved into filthy sheds by the tens of thousands and bred to grow such unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs are often disabled by the weight of their weight. In the slaughterhouse, their throats are often slit while they are still conscious, and many are scalded to death in emptying tanks.
Anyone who goes vegan saves about 200 animals each year; reduces their risk of developing cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes and obesity; and helps prevent future epidemics and pandemics. SARS, swine flu, avian flu, and COVID-19 all arose from keeping and killing animals for food.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat,” opposes specisism, which is a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
