Nashville, Tennessee. “As part of the PETA Pisces Promo, her mermaids are going to make a splash tomorrow by encouraging potential customers at local chain Captain D’s (a chain from Nashville) to try Deep Sea Vegan’s vegan fish fillets – for free. …
Where: Captain D’s, 921 Jefferson St., Nashville
When: Friday, 26 February, 12 noon
The giveaway is part of a campaign that will see the seafood restaurant become the first major chain to offer vegan fish. PETA also installed a billboard in front of another local captain, D, urging visitors to “see a man” at every seafood platter, bowl of gumbo, and shrimp kebab.
“Fish feel pain, are good parents, use tools and create magnificent underwater art,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Fish-free fillets are now widely available and Captain D’s would be wise to make money in the vegan market, as many other fast food chains have done.”
Without any legal protection against abuse, these complex animals are pierced, crushed, suffocated, or cut and gutted while awake. Captain D. could show kindness to these animals, keep up with the rapidly growing popularity of vegan dining, and satisfy all its customers are offered one of the many artificial fish options available today, such as Gardein’s Golden Fishless Filets, May Wah’s Vegan Golden Fish Fillets, New Wave Foods’ new plant-based shrimp and many more.
The PETA billboard is located at 498 Bell Rd.
