Athens, Georgia. – See PETA Vice President Alka Chandna’s statement on recent USDA links to violations at the University of Georgia in Athens:
Apparently, the University of Georgia at Athens (UGA) cannot even be trusted to anesthetize animals and draw blood from them without killing them. University officials should immediately suspend all animal experiments and fire staff responsible for the reckless behavior that left hamsters and ferrets dead in their laboratories. These violations are not the first: the university was cited by feds 11 times in the last five years, including forcing monkeys to look for food for treats in the waste under their cages. The UGA must put this abhorrent behavior in the past and devote itself to modern animal-free science.
